Transferring cash to Bank of Africa accounts via Orange mobile money and vice versa is planned to become a reality in coming months for millions of Africans.

In a joint statement, Bank of Africa and Orange Money say a network of licensed Orange distributors will supplement 450 Bank of Africa branches, "offering a maximum number of cash withdrawal points to the customers of the two companies."

Bank of Africa Group has a presence Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Togo and Senegal, Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Tanzania and Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Meanwhile, Orange Money has more than 11 million customers in 14 countries in Africa and the Middle East.

"Our respective businesses complement each other making it easier for customers to manage their money using their mobile, wherever they are in the country and at any time of the day," said Marc Rennard, senior executive vice president, Africa, the Middle-East and Asia, Orange.

According to the statement, the service has already been available in Madagascar since August and will be extended to Ivory Coast, Mali, Senegal, Niger and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the coming months.
