Oral-B Nigeria notches up 5 million Facebook likes

Toothpaste brand Oral-B is proving to be more popular in Nigeria on social media website Facebook than one of the country's biggest local banks.

Oral-B, manufactured by Procter and Gamble, has rocketed past 5 million likes on its Nigerian Facebook page, which was set up in June 2011.

As a result, Oral-B has far surpassed the likes of Nigeria’s Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), which this year hit over one million Facebook likes.

Nigerian tech blog TechLoy says Oral-B has had a meteoric rise up the social media ranks, as the toothpaste brand only started “real engagement with its fans...early this year.”

According to Techloy, Oral-B had just 50,000 Facebook likes in January 2013.

Oral-B’s surge in Facebook users has occurred as the firm has released a Facebook app that forms part of a competition to win ‘Oral-B Pro-Health Toothpaste’.

The brand has also reportedly launched another Facebook app featuring what is called its ‘Winning Mouth Test’, which aims to pose questions to fans about whether their mouth is a ‘winner’ or what they need to do to protect their oral hygiene.
